Rock Collecting at Low Tide

This morning we got up early because we had heard there was a chance the sea turtle conservation organization in Punta Banco had a turtle nest that might hatch this morning. When we arrived there was no sign of baby turtles in the hatching pen so we will have to try again another day. However, now that we were at the beach at 7AM, we decided to do a little exploring.

It was low tide and the beach in Punta Banco is already long, wide and flat so low tide goes out a long way. The black volcanic sand was strewn with thousands of little pebbles, medium sized rocks and the occasion shell. We ended up spending over two hours just discovering different rocks. Purple, green, blue, white, solid, patterned, one with tiny fossilized shells and even a rock that floats (seriously). It was an early morning, beach to ourselves, relaxed treasure hunt that none of us wanted to end. Eventually, we needed to get back for school so we kept only the 85 best rocks from our collection and brought them back home.

After school, we went to a great little shack of a "Soda" just off the beach road that serves ceviche for a late lunch.

Another good day in the books. We are looking forward to Saturday when Laura gets a half day off and we drag her around with us for a while!
