Only Love for Positano

Today was the day we all fell in love with Positano. But not in a hurry. We allowed ourselves a lazy morning with a bit of a sleep-in, fried eggs with toast and berries for breakfast on our beautiful terrace, a little homework for Fiona, and then a quick swim in the sea down a steep set of steps from our villa (for some of us).
Once we were recharged from a big day yesterday traveling and settling into new accommodations, we had a water taxi pick us up from our seaside villa, destined for Positano. The taxi was a Zodiak with a driver who swiftly and skillfully negotiated the waves crashing against our rocky property while we hopped into the boat one by one.

Ahhhh... what a beuatiful way to get from one town to the next in the Amalfi Coast. Seriously, this is not lost on me! We all enjoyed the ride so much. The water was quite calm, the sun was shining and sparkling off the water, the sky was blue, and the ride was only about 10-15 minutes. Approaching Positano from the water was an opportunity to get a view of this magical town in one complete picture before we began exploring it one nook and cranny at a time. It's easy to see why it is such a favoured destination.

After we disembarked on the concrete dock adjacent to the famous beach, our first priority was lunch. We spent about 15 minutes walking around and getting oriented while we picked what we thought would be the restaurant that would provide the best overall experience. We chose a restaurant "Chez Black" overlooking the popular beach based on the view, the chic Tiffany'esque decor, the menu, and most importantly the food we could see on the tables. After eating so much pizza and pasta in Rome we were all anxious for some seafood and vegetables. We knew this restaurant, based on it's proximity to the beach, had a risk of not living up to the hype, but we loved it! We ordered several dishes to share, including pizza (of course), mussels & clams (a family fav), homemade pasta with local lobster (Matt's fav), eggplant parmesan and a Capricciosa salad with tuna. We enjoyed our experience so much the girls asked if we could write a review online and give it 5 stars.

After lunch we strolled through this beautiful town, popping in and out of shops. The girls had gelato - of course! They also stopped to admire some artwork and purchased some prints and postcards for themselves and their friends.

We have been on the lookout for new sandals for the girls and we hit the jackpot today with handmade shoes in Positano! April has a particularly high foot, and Fiona a narrow foot, so finding non-sneaker shoes that they like and are comfortable is challenging. Their new sandals are super cute, tailored to their liking, and passed the comfort test.

After the girls had already had gelato, we came across fresh lemon slushies. Four pleading puppy dog eyes and, well, they were sharing a refreshing slushy. Sometimes parenting can be so tough! It looked so lovely I was tempted to get one myself, but I truly was so full from lunch still. I think it must be true that kids have one stomach for meals and another for dessert.

Eventually we made our way back down to the beach. By this point I hadn't had my daily Caffè macchiato (double espresso with a dollop of foamed milk). And my "dessert stomach" was starting to think about gelato. So I opted for an affogato, my first in Italy (a scoop of vanilla gelato topped with a shot of espresso). I indulged in it on the dock while I looked out at the view and waited for our water taxi to pick us up.

Positano was very good to us today, we had only love for all of it. On our way back to our villa in Praiano, our driver took us on a short detour into a cave in the rocky shore. It was a nice unexpected delight. Fiona tells me our blog followers like videos and that I should post more, so I made an effort to capture one today.
Once back at our villa, Matt and I put our feet up while the girls got to work making their much anticipated lemonade with the lemons from our property. We had picked up strawberries at the market, so strawberry lemonade became today's special. And it was special indeed - so refreshing and delicious!!

Now that we have our own kitchen, we took the opportunity to prepare dinner for ourselves and have a quiet evening. Using the groceries we picked up at the market in Positano (lettuce, tomatoes, peaches, olives and grilled vegetables), April helped Matt prepare a delicious salad with fresh mozzarella and a tasty dressing Matt made with fresh lemons (theme of the week) and salty capers. It was one of our best meals in Italy!

With a newfound love for another beautiful place, we are feeling grateful for this day. Last night’s full moon is still shining bright on the Mediterranean.

Good night Praiano. Good night Positano. Good night to everyone we love.
